I love “playing in prototype”! While some individuals require a meticulously crafted plan before getting started, I often choose to dive in and learn as we go. That’s why I was so excited to be part of the first CFA Executive Retreat. Our Executive Director, James Baty worked with past Board President, Phil Marone to make sure the first retreat would not only be valuable but also unforgettable. Mission accomplished! We met in Philadelphia where Phil was an exceptional host.   We had a wonderful time exploring the city and also discussed strategies for enhancing our leadership skills. I’m thankful for the time with other leaders in our industry and to be a part of an association dedicated to bringing value to its members.

As we continue to navigate through 2023, I continue to be encouraged by the innovation and collaboration I see from our members.   Our job is undeniably challenging, and I would even argue that it’s the most difficult aspect of constructing a new building. Perhaps I’m biased but consider the sheer weight of the materials we transport to the site, the unpredictability of weather and soil conditions, the numerous inspections we must undergo, and the fact that our primary material is both expensive and perishable. It’s tough! The good news is that we are an industry of experts, and we don’t have to go at it alone.  Nearly every time I’ve faced a difficult situation, I have friends in our industry that have dealt with it before and are eager to help out.  The Concrete Foundation Association is full of poured wall pioneers that have blazed trails and taken a lot of arrows throughout the years to make what we do easier and dare I say enjoyable. The secret to tapping into this is to get involved, attend events, join calls, and chime into the CFA Hotline conversations.

If we’ve not met, I’d love to meet you and hear your story. Perhaps we can tell some jobsite stories and share some tricks of the trade.  I’m planning to be at Summer Convention in San Antonio, hope to see you there.

Best Regards
